Thousands of people gathered on the streets of Barcelona, Spain, on March 25 to protest the arrest of the former Catalan President Carles Puigdemont in Germany earlier that day, Spanish media reported.

Puigdemont left Finland, where he was for a conference, on March 23 because he believed that Finland might extradite him to Spain over his involvement in organizing a referendum in 2017 that asked whether the Catalonia region should succeed from Spain, Reuters said.
