The South Korean government has approved the revision to a labor bill aimed at shortening the legal working hours from current maximum of 68 hours to 52 hours.
Following the revision, the maximum working hours will be made up of 40 hours a week regular work and 12 hours extended work.
Currently, an employee can work for 16 hours over the weekend on top of those 40 hours of regular and 12 hours of extended work.
The envisioned cut in working hours is one of President Moon's key election pledges aimed at enhancing the quality of life for workers and creating jobs.
