Louisville Must Forfeit Wins, NCAA Championship Over Sex Scandal On Tuesday, the NCAA ruled against Louisville's appeal, upholding the penalties that it handed down for the men's basketball program. The school must vacate 123 wins, all from under former coach Rick Pitino, all of its tournament appearances and the 2013 national championship. The scandal, which involved trying to sway recruits with prostitutes, will also cost the school $600,000 in tournament payouts. Because the student-athletes received improper benefits, it follows they competed while ineligible, which in turn supports the vacation of records and financial penalties imposed by the Committee on Infractions. Louisville's interim president, Dr. Greg Postel, has since replied to the ruling. I cannot say this strongly enough: We believe the N.C.A.A. is simply wrong. We disagree with the NCAA ruling for reasons we clearly stated in our appeal. And we made a strong case - based on NCAA precedent - that supported our argument.
