Two girls on a scooter had a miraculous escape after colliding with a lorry.

Both of them lost balance and went under the lorry. But as the lorry driver slammed brakes the vehicle stopped at the nick of time and the two girls avoided getting crushed by the heavy tyres.

The dramatic incident occurred on January 23 at the South Indian city of Pudukkottai and was caught in a CCTV camera installed by the police.

Sangavi, a college student, and her neighbour, Rani, were returning home after shopping when their scooter hit a slow-moving lorry.
The lorry driver heard the sound of collision and stopped the vehicle immediately saving their lives.
Speaking to reporters, Sangavi said she took a long time to come out of the shock. “I thank the driver. He saved my life.”

But the lorry driver drove away soon after the passers-by pulled out the girls from under the vehicle.
The police plan to use the video to raise public awareness.

The district head of police S Selvaraj said: “The girls weren’t wearing helmets. We are going to start a campaign to create awareness on the importance of wearing helmets and follow road safety rules.”
