Los Angeles, 1947: Drive Through Bunker Hill & Downtown at Night (Jazz by Kevin MacLeod)

2018-02-02 1

This video features archival footage from the 1940's of a car ride through downtown L.A. The year is 1947, and "Gilda" starring Rita Hayworth is playing in theaters. The jazz music heard in the video is by Kevin MacLeod.

First up, a background process plate produced for an unidentified feature film, shot from an automobile driving through Bunker Hill and downtown Los Angeles. Next up, a color process plate of downtown Los Angeles streets at night. This is the colorized version of PET0980_R-4_LA. The shot list follows: Exterior night, street in Los Angeles, moving shot from automobile, reverse angle with car in pursuit, along 8th Street (Olympic Theatre and RKO visible). Some turns. Moving, from automobile, 3/4 reverse angle, nighttime streets of downtown Los Angeles. Stores, theaters and marquees, pedestrians on sidewalk, traffic. Color appears unnatural, but good-quality material of nighttime Los Angeles.
