A sea otter ate its breakfast during the lunar eclipse in Morro Bay, California, on Wednesday, January 31.
Monday’s lunar event took on three attributes that infrequently align. It was a supermoon because it was at the moon’s closest point to Earth, a blue moon because it was the second full moon of the month, and it was a lunar eclipse that cast a red hue over the moon, called a blood moon. It’s been 150 years since the last time the three events aligned on one night.
