Rare Glimpse of Endangered California Condors Mating Caught on Camera

The National Park Service gave a rare glimpse of two wild California condors mating in Zion National Park in a video posted on Wednesday, January 31.

The critically endangered birds are most often seen flying over the park’s canyons looking for food, and “it is rare to see any other kind of behavior.”

The two condors in the video were spotted last week near Angels Landing, the parks service said on Facebook. The birds typically form monogamous pairs in late winter or early spring, exhibiting courtship behavior, before nesting. The park service said they hope the mating means Zion could be home to a condor nest during the summer. Credit: National Park Service/Brianna Johnson via Storyful
