High winds and heavy snow made for difficult conditions at Olympic National Park in Washington on Saturday, January 27. Hurricane Ridge Road was closed as the snow was falling as fast as the road crews could clear it.

“In just an hour, feet of snow can accumulate over freshly plowed pavement,” a post on Olympic National Park’s Facebook page said. “Additionally, visibility is compromised and functioning outside is difficult with substantial winter clothing (goggles, waterproof jacket with hood, waterproof pants, face mask, warm hat, etc) and impossible without.”

The National Weather Service reported heavy snow in the mountains on Saturday with rain in lower elevations. Wind gusts of over 30 miles per hour were reported in several locations. Credit: National Park Service via Storyful
