The Susquehanna River flowed slowly past Pittston and West Pittston, Pennsylvania, for several minutes on January 24 as the ice jam threatening flooding broke up.

The photographer of this footage said the flow stopped again shortly after he finished filming.

West Pittston Police released a statement alerting the public to the potential for serious flooding and mandated a 9pm curfew for the town on January 24. News reports said water levels in the town had “risen dramatically” and quoted the mayor of West Pittston as saying “the river level and the ice are something we haven’t seen.” [sic] Credit: Duane Morris via Storyful
