Fans of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrated their team’s victory over the Minnesota Vikings to secure their place in the Super Bowl 2018 Final on Sunday, January 21.
Videos shared on Twitter by eyewitness Alayna Giovannitti shows Eagles fans cheering at the junction of Broad Street and Snyder Avenue. The first video shows a man who scaled a lamppost, despite attempts by the police to prevent fans climbing by slathering the street poles in grease. In a second video, a firework is set off in the road amid applause from onlookers.
Police conducted extra patrols and set up barricades on Broad Street to control the huge crowd, Fox News reported. The Philadelphia Mayor’s Office released a statement asking football fans to celebrate in a “safe and respectful way”.
“Let’s celebrate with the same pride in our City that the players have shown throughout this astonishing season,” it said. Credit: Twitter/Alayna Giovannitti via Storyful
