Trump On Shutdown: 'Democrats Wanted To Give Me A Nice Present' For My First Anniversary In Office

President Trump lashed out at Democrats on Saturday in a series of tweets.

After lawmakers failed to reach a deal on the spending bill, resulting in a government shutdown, President Trump took to Twitter Saturday morning and lashed out at Democrats.
"This is the One Year Anniversary of my Presidency and the Democrats wanted to give me a nice present," Trump tweeted. "Democrats are far more concerned with Illegal Immigrants than they are with our great Military or Safety at our dangerous Southern Border."
In another tweet, Trump wrote, "For those asking, the Republicans only have 51 votes in the Senate, and they need 60. That is why we need to win more Republicans in 2018 Election!"
There were hopes that a deal could be worked out Friday afternoon when Trump invited Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to the White House for talks.
According to the New York Times, they "came close to an agreement to avert a government shutdown over lunch on Friday, but their consensus broke down later in the day when the president and his chief of staff demanded more concessions on immigration, according to people on both sides familiar with the lunch and follow-up calls between Mr. Trump and Mr. Schumer."
Since then, both sides have blamed each other for the first shutdown since 2013.
"This will be called the #TrumpShutdown. There is no one who deserves the blame for the position we find ourselves in more than President Trump," Schumer tweeted.
Meanwhile, the White House posted a statement  Friday night referring to Democrats as "obstructionist losers."
"Senate Democrats own the Schumer Shutdown. Tonight, they put politics above our national security, military families, vulnerable children, and our country's ability to serve all Americans," the statement said. "We will not negotiate the status of unlawful immigrants while Democrats hold our lawful citizens hostage over their reckless demands. This is the behavior of obstructionist losers, not legislators."
