Republicans Vote to Avoid Government Shutdown While House Republicans are pushing for a vote to avoid a shutdown it's still unclear if they will have enough support to keep the government running. If Congress doesn't come up with a solution to fund the government on Friday they will face a federal shutdown. On Tuesday, GOP leaders released a resolution to keep the government funded for one month. The deal included a a six-year extension of the Children's Health Insurance Program making it difficult for Democrats to oppose the bill.
