A woman died and 15 were injured as a shuttle boat caught fire while heading to a casino boat near New Port Richey, Florida on Sunday (14 January).

According to the police, the 42 years old passenger died from her injuries a few hours following the incident.

The fire likely started in the engine room and spread quickly as the boat was less than a kilometre away from the coast according to Fire department officials.

The 50 passengers had to jump in a 15 degrees Celsius water combined with Gulf breezes to escape the flames. Some risked the hypothermia if emergency services did not arrive on time.

"Passengers swam to shore for help received by the neighbourhood." writes the filmer.
