Montecito Rescue Dog Gets Bathed Following Search

Rescue workers on Sunday, January 14, continued the search for people who were trapped following the previous week’s mudflows in Montecito, California. The death toll rose to 20 on Sunday, authorities said, and four people remained missing.

Workers remained in search-and-rescue mode, though authorities said each passing hour was making it less likely they will find people alive, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The 101 Freeway remained closed due to the mud and debris strewn across it on Sunday. Officials had hoped to re-open the major highway on Monday, but one section of the road has been difficult to clean, the Times reported. It was unclear when the highway would re-open.
