Iranian Army Chief Claims Troops Remain Ready To Intervene In Anti-Government Protests

On Thursday, Iran's army chief declared that police had ended anti-government protests that left twenty-one people dead, but went on to say that his troops remained ready to intervene in needed, as Tehran staged more pro-government rallies. The protests erupted a week ago in Iran’s second city of Mashhad over economic hardships including, high youth unemployment, costly living standards, and alleged government corruption.
