Timelapse Shows Snow Piling Up in New York During Nor'easter

High winds and heavy snow accompanied a powerful nor’easter that affected a large swath of the East Coast on Thursday, January 4.

In New York, the National Weather Service reported snow totals up to 8.5 inches on Long Island around noon, several hours into the storm. A peak wind gust of 57 miles per hour was reported in Suffolk County. Up to 15 inches of snow was expected to fall, the weather service said.

A blizzard warning was in effect for eastern portions of the region with high winds and snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour expected.
