Federal investigators stated the engineer of an Amtrak train that derailed in Washington applied the breaks about six-seconds before the disaster.
The Amtrak Cascades commuter train crashed on its inaugural run through a new bypass.
Although the train was equipped with Positive Train Control, which would reduce the train's speed in such an event, the system had not been certified for use.
