Dyne Side is a breath of fresh air for South Florida. An alternative rock band native to Miami, their relevance on the music scene is relatively recent.

They began laying the foundation in 2010 — when Emmanuel Costa-Maya (vocals) joined Eddie Salcedo (guitar), Ariel Ramirez (bass) and Michael Hernandez (keys) — to form the group.

“We are eclectic," says Emmanuel Costa-Maya. "Our sound is adaptive because we like so many different genres. We’re five guys with distinctive personalities that generate an unexpected sound that may be shocking, but in a good way.”

It is hard to make an impression as a band, when your leading man is on the front lines halfway around the world. Emmanuel had enlisted in the US Air Force right before joining Dyne Side and was stationed in South Korea to begin his four-year service. The physical distance between them as a band did not deter them from their collaborative goals. In the time they were apart they managed to release their first album, Bite The IX, along with a music video for their single Pound for Pound. They also managed a few live performances at local venues like Tobacco Road, The Social Lubricant and Churchill’s Pub.

Emmanuel's return this year marks the beginning of the next leg in their journey. Steffen Banas joined up as drummer, offering a welcome shift in their dynamic with new influences. They are finally working on putting a literal face to the music they’ve worked to create.

Says Eddie Salcedo: "We are going to be a larger presence than ever before. The tension is thick and we will bare our souls at every live show -- we want to leave it all on the stage. That is what live art is about, and that is absolutely what Dyne Side is about.”
