Eileen Healy is a Cork based guitarist/fiddler/singer and artist. She started singing and playing guitar at the age of 16 .After moving to Cork from her hometown of Youghal, she quickly became part of the Lobby bar music scene where she jammed and recorded with 'The Lobby Washed Down'.. a roots based acoustic band formed from the Lobby Monday sessions. A fan of blues, rock, swing, gospel and jazz she stepped into the unknown when she decided to learn fiddle at the tender age of 25. Since then she has been a part of the vibrant Cork music scene for many years and played in countless bands, including 'Ditherum', 'The House of Blue Lights', The Polskadots, The Critters and harmony trio... The Ladybugs
She has 2 cds under her belt..'Different Colour Blue' ..a cd of her own songs and 'Secret Smile'..a tribute to some of her favourite songwriters and music styles, showcasing her arrangements on guitar, fiddle and vocals with singers Aideen Curtin and Rachel Healy. www.eileenhealy.org
She has also recorded with Canadian singer/songwriter Tony Henderson, Two Time Polka and Aaron Dillon.
She has played in Finland, France, Italy and Berlin and at the Dun Laoghaire World Fest, Sixmilebridge Winter Music Fest and Cork Folk Festival.
For the past 4 years she has been hosting a very special weekly Wed gig.. 'The Cosy Club' at The Sin E pub in Cork featuring many top notch Cork musicians such as Eoghan Regan, Hank Wedel, Ray Barron, Edel Sullivan, Christian Martin, Noely Ward and Dick Farrelly.
More recently she teamed up with Cork singer/songwriter Pat Fitzharrison on vocals and fiddle to form the band Maytown. This collaboration has resulted in a very edgy and lyrical sound combining blues, roots, punk and funk inluences
Review of Secret Smile..The Ticket..Irish Times.
It would be hard to criticise Healys selection of material-quality songs such as Hank Williams 'Weary Blues',Richard Thompsons 'She sang Angels to Rest' and the traditional 'Aint got no Honey Baby Now' speak for themselves.Healys simple but effecting arrangements, featuring a sympathetic group of musicians, also hits the spot.My favourite piece is a k.d lang-like stand alone version of 'Sweet little Cherokee'.
