Procession Held for California Firefighter Killed Battling Thomas Fire

A procession of fire trucks and police cars transported the body of 32-year-old Cory Iverson, a Cal Fire engineer who died on December 14 while battling the Thomas fire.

The procession took Iverson from the frontlines of one of the biggest fires in California’s history, near Fillmore, to Ventura, where an autopsy will be performed.

Iverson leaves behind his pregnant wife, Ashley, and their 2-year-old daughter, officials said.

The Thomas fire had been burning for nearly two full weeks, destroying or damaging around 1,230 structures. By by Thursday morning it had grown to 242,500 acres and was still only 30 percent contained, according to fire officials. Credit: Twitter/Lacitychiefs via Storyful
