Taylor Swift one of the members of “The Silence Breakers,” who have collectively been named Time’s Person of the Year.
And Swift has some brave words for those who have felt sexually harassed or assaulted. The singer has one loud message to all survivors, “do not accept the blame.”
She tells Time magazine, “Even though awareness is higher than ever about workplace sexual harassment, there are still so many people who feel victimized, afraid and silenced by their abusers and circumstances.”
Taylor Swift famously went through court against a former Denver radio host, David Mueller, who a jury ruled assaulted Swift at a meet-and-greet in 2013. And the singer is happy to share what she’s learned from the process.
She tells Time, “My advice is that you should not blame yourself and do not accept the blame others will try to place on you…” The singer says, “you should not be blamed for waiting 15 minutes or 15 days or 15 years to report sexual assault or harassment, or for the outcome of what happens to a person after he or she makes the choice to sexually harass or assault you.”
There’s no doubt Swift’s voice will be importantly heard by many.
