Located in the Thousand Islands to the north of Jakarta, Pulau Macan (Tiger Island) is a private island that runs an eco-friendly management system and is arguably the best place for Jakartans who long to breathe in the smell of the ocean while resting and relaxing in a wooden hut overlooking a pristine beach.
We visited the island over the national holidays, departing from Ancol Marina in North Jakarta as early as 8 a.m. using a speedboat. The interesting thing about staying at Tiger Island was that the electricity was cut off from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m as part of their policy of being an eco-friendly resort. But those who wish to charge their gadgets during the time can go to a meeting point at the lobby.
During our one-night stay, we went snorkeling and had a chance to explore nearby small uninhibited islands. Other outdoor and indoor activities visitors can do are sunbathing on the sun deck, playing ping-pong and diving.
