Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull welcomed the same-sex marriage bill to the House of Representatives on December 4, affirming his commitment to the cause and speaking about his love of marriage.
“It’s time to get on with it,” Turnbull said.
“The Australian people have said yes to fairness, yes to equality, yes to commitment, yes to love.”
The cross-party same-sex marriage bill, authored by Liberal senator Dean Smith, was passed by the Senate on Wednesday, November 29. Labor, Greens, the Nick Xenophon Team and Senator Derryn Hinch supported the bill, which was also was co-signed by two Liberal senators, according to The Guardian.
