Taiwanese activist Lee Ming-Che was sentenced to five years in prison by a Chinese court today on charges of "subverting state power."
The 42-year-old human-rights activist was arrested on suspicion of subversion when entering China in March and went on trial alongside Mainland Chinese activist Peng Yuhua in September.
Both were accused of subverting state power by promoting "Western-style democracy" on social media and messaging platforms.
Lee and Peng pleaded guilty and were sentenced respectively to five and seven years imprisonment.
