With the December funding deadline and a possible government shutdown looming, President Trump on Tuesday tweeted that he sees no compromise with Democratic leadership ahead.
"Meeting with 'Chuck and Nancy' today about keeping government open and working," Trump wrote. "Problem is they want illegal immigrants flooding into our Country unchecked, are weak on Crime and want to substantially RAISE Taxes. I don't see a deal!"
Politico notes that some Democrats have made it clear that they will not support any funding proposal until protections for Dreamers, the undocumented immigrants brought into this country as children, have been established.
For a time in September, it appeared Trump, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer had come to a consensus, which included security for Dreamers and no funding for the U.S.-Mexico border wall.
Soon after, the White House said that was not the case.
More recently, Trump used his apparent frustrations with Pelosi and Schumer to fuel an attack against Doug Jones, a Democrat running against Roy Moore for one of Alabama's seats in the U.S. Senate.
The president tweeted that Jones is a "Schumer/Pelosi puppet who is WEAK on Crime, WEAK on the border."
