Supporters of a former vice president to Ahmadinejad clashed with attackers at the Shah Abdol-Azim shrine in Tehran, where he had taken refuge to avoid appearing before a court, on November 18.

Hamid Baghaei, a former vice president to Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, began his sit-in at the shrine on November 15, to avoid appearing in court on corruption charges, a US-sponsored news outlet that reports from Iran said.

In a statement posted on a pro-Ahmadinejad Telegram account on November 19, Hamid Baghaei said he and two others, who had sought refuge, would leave the shrine in order to protect its reputation after the physical confrontation. Credit: Telegram/Dolatebahar via Storyful
