Charlie Baldwin's return on Apollo as Kasket is a welcome one. Having cut his teeth playing with the likes of Matt Berry, Geno Washington and Mo Foster, 'Egal' really probes deep into the nuances of Baldwin's early influences and emerges triumphantly in its own right. It's a project healthily coated in psychedelic, jazz and Latin seasoning; heaving with live elements as a testament to his varied skills behind instrument as well as software.
The towering opener "Wait For It" is easily the heftiest tonnage. Kickstarted by a loose-goosey percussion groove, soft vocal chants slowly interweave themselves in before building to a wild and chaotic coda via some urgently syncopated piano stabs.
'Egal' is out on July 27th through Apollo Records.
