Ghost Recon Wildlands (Closed Beta) - i5 4690K & GTX 1070 - FPS Test and Settings

Greetings, everyone. \r
\r
Today were testing the Closed Beta for Tom Clancys Ghost Recon Wildlands, the cooperative open world game from Ubisoft.\r
\r
Before going into details, first off here are my current PC specs where I played this beta:\r
\r
-CPU: i5 4690K@4.4 GHz with Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO.\r
-Mobo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger (Z97).\r
-GPU: Inno3D Twin X2 GTX 1070 (stock) and latest WHQL driver (378.49).\r
-RAM: 16 GB DDR3@1866, 9-10-9-28.\r
-Storage: Kingston SSDNow 300, 240 GB (O.S. installed here); Samsung 750 EVO 500 GB (game installed here).\r
-O.S: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit with latest updates.\r
-Running at 1080p-144Hz native.\r
\r
Its important to note that as far as I know, NVIDIA hasnt released any official Game Ready driver for this game yet, at least not recently, I dont know if theres any beta driver out there though, or if AMD has released anything for this beta, either.\r
\r
The thing with this beta is…it seems to be running worse than expected at this stage of development, for many people with amazingly good rigs. Usually open world games tend to be very demanding on both CPU and GPU but Wildlands seems to have some issues that are not easy, as a normal player, to understand. Yes, the game looks beautiful but not better than other similar games that run way better and…so far from what Ive seen, the game ually feels quite empty compared to other open world games…so the bad performance is not easy to justify here, it shouldnt run this bad on good machines.\r
\r
\r
The game provides us with a benchmark that we can use to compare our performance with other users (Ive been gathering info from reddit) and it really seems to be an issue, its not some isolated case here and there. I can understand a CPU like my 4690K not performing greatly in some huge open world games, but Ive seen people with 6700K, 5820K, etc., CPUs way better than mine for gaming, posting benchmark results that are very similar or even worse than my own…thats a big problem right there, indeed.\r
\r
From what I have tested and also read on the internets, the best thing to do is never use VSYNC ingame…its bad, it doesnt even let you choose any buffering options, and also cap the frame rate to 60. When I did this, the game seems to run smoother at 60 FPS with some settings tuned down, but it still dips below 60 and even 50 when driving around, for instance.\r
\r
Still, its a beta, the benefit of the doubt can be applied here for Ubisoft…but realistically speaking this game is one month away from release, and lately betas are just glorified demos so everyone can decide if theyre going to buy the game or pass on it. I think Im gonna pass, myself, not just for the performance issues that may or may not get fixed by next month, but because its not really my type of game and I have some other issues with the game controls with keyboard and mouse, handling vehicles, etc., but this video is not about that, fortunately.\r
\r
As usual, I hope this can be useful to any of you (sorry it was a bit longer than usual) and Ill see you in the next one : )
