Hong Kong soccer fans booed the Chinese national anthem on Thursday, November 9, despite a recent amendment by China that extends punishments for “disrespect” to the Chinese flag and anthem and an expected extension of the law to cover Hong Kong.
According to Reuters, the law has yet to be passed locally, and Chief Executive Carrie Lam has said it would not be applied retrospectively.
