Flooding continued to cause disruption in Malaysia’s northern Penang state on Monday, November 6, following a severe storm that struck late on Saturday night.
The storm swamped streets in the state capital, Georgetown, while on the mainland the Sungai Muda and Jarak rivers broke their banks flooding the surrounding areas. More than 6,000 residents were evacuated from flood impacted areas in Penang state, according to local newspaper Kosmo.
Seven people were killed in what has been called the state’s worst flooding. Malaysia’s police and military have been deployed to help with relief efforts, The Straits Times reported.
