In the Ruins of Deir Ezzor: Syrian Forces Push Islamic State Out, Devastation Left Behind

2017-11-04 25

The Syrian Army said this week it had driven the last of Islamic State from the last bastion of its failed caliphate in Deir Ezzor, but as this November 4 video shows, much of what is left behind in the city is wreckage, weapons and rubble.

The video is described as showing Hassan al-Taha Street and Al-Bassel Square, towards the “old market,” documenting the Syrian Army and its allies’ control of Sheikh Yassin, al-Hamidiya and Tkaya districts and neighborhoods, and the municipal stadium. An Islamic State headquarters building can be seen at 00:19, characterized by the black paint and familiar logo, following shots of mortars and shells left behind.
