Waterproofing Spray for Rain Jackets and Tents

2017-10-25 3

How to apply waterproofing sprays to breathable rain jackets and fabrics. How to properly care for water proof fabrics like Goretex and Event. Manufures recommend that waterproof breathable jackets should be retreated about once per year; but this may depend on your usage. Reproofing of your waterproof jackets outer surface is necessary to restore its beading qualities. When rainwater hits the fabric it should immediately run off, but if your fabric is becoming partially saturated its waterproofing and breathability is no longer at maximum. For safety and emergencies its best to always have a waterproof rain jacket in your trekking backpack, if you are stuck in the wild overnight youll be glad to have one ;-) You dont have to buy expensive fabrics, lots of people use simple and affordable ponchos. Ponchos also have many advantages.\r

We have now performed this waterproofing with both the heat cure and non-heat cure methods. I would recommend that the heat cure method seems to work better. The only difference with the heat cure method is, once youve finished spraying and rubbing in the chemical, put the garment into a tumble dryer (in the video we line dry it in the shade). These waterproof sprays seem to have an odour similar to PVA glue, the fabric will feel thicker and newish once your done! It is generally recommended that the heat cure method should not be used on tents. Its also a good idea to cont the manufure of your garment to ask what products and processes they recommend.\r
The blue jacket in our video is made by One Planet in Australia, the green tent is made by Rab in the UK.\r
