Fallout 4 - i5 4690K & GTX 770 - FPS Test and settings

2017-10-17 4

Greetings, everyone.\r
\r
Today I present you my first Fallout 4 video, as usual testing some frame rates and settings with my current system. Bethesda has updated the Creation engine quite a bit and I think its about time I put my trusty old 770 to the test, once more.\r
\r
So, as usual, my current PC specs are the following:\r
\r
-CPU: i5 4690K@4.4 GHz (Turbo).\r
-Mobo: Asus Maximus VII Ranger.\r
-GPU: Asus GTX 770 DirectCU II OC 2 GB with no extra OC and latest Game Ready driver.\r
-RAM: 16 GB DDR3@1866, 9-10-9-28.\r
-Storage: Kingston SSDNow 300, 240 GB where both game and O.S. are installed.\r
-O.S: Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit with latest updates.\r
\r
Firstly, I show you guys the game running at the “recommended” or auto-detected settings by the game itself, which basically are the “High” preset and just that. As we can see in the video, the game seems to run quite fine at 50 something and 60ish FPS, but keep in mind I dont show any combat in this video. One thing we can clearly see, is that the CPU usage seems fairly balanced across all my four cores but also a bit higher compared to other recent open world games. This is not really an issue for now, though, but keep that in mind when trying to play with a similar stock CPU, since mine is over clocked.\r
\r
Memory usage seems quite good, textures are nothing stellar but they seem to do the job quite well, keeping the games aesthetics fairly consistent wherever we look at. \r
\r
In the rest of the video, I keep lowering quality presets to show the differences, even though texture quality isnt really changing much or anything at all between presets. But other things like shadow and lighting quality, as well as viewing distances, really do change a lot from one preset to another, and so does the frame rate, of course.\r
\r
Lastly, at the end of the video, I show my own personal choice of custom settings, which I will use from now on to play the game and see how it performs. I basically took the own games recommended settings for my system (High) and tuned down God rays to Low, and adjusted lighting to High, instead of Ultra, and then upped a bit all the distance sliders so theyre all equally at their middle position, more or less.\r
\r
I feel I like these settings and the game seems to run over 60 FPS when running around, which is quite alright.\r
One thing to add regarding frame rate…try keeping it at 60 max…the games physics dont seem to like higher frame rate and some things might break quite a bit (Creation engine flaws, as it happened with Skyrim too…).\r
\r
I hope you guys found this video useful, and Ill see you in the next one : )
