How to Make the Perfect Holiday Sugar cookies and Icing - tips for decorating

We make holiday cookies year round - for litearlly every holiday, birthday party and more. This frosting get a lovely crusts and tastes great - I like to add peppermint during the holidays but almond during the rest of the year!\r
\r
SUGAR COOKIES AND ICING\r
Printable recipe \r
COOKIES\r
6 1/2 C flour\r
2 tsp. baking soda\r
1 tsp. salt\r
2 tsp. nutmeg\r
2 tsp. baking powder\r
1 C Butter\r
2 C sugar\r
2 egg\r
2 tsp. vanilla\r
1 C thick sour cream\r
Preheat oven to 350\r
Sift flour, soda, salt, nutmeg and powder in a bowl.\r
In separate bowl cream the butter and sugar (use cookie paddles or dough hook this will get thick)\r
Add the egg and beat again\r
then add the vanilla and sour cream and beat it smooth\r
Mix in dry ingredients and beat smooth - it will be thick.\r
wrap up in wax paper or parchment paper and chill in fridge for 3-4 hours\r
preheat oven to 350\r
roll out to 1/4 inch and cut holiday shapes\r
bake for 8-10 mins, until the edges get a slight golden color to them (dont over bake) let cool\r
ICING\r
4 C powder sugar\r
1/4 C milk\r
2 Tbsp butter\r
2 Tbsp corn syrup\r
1 1/2 tsp vanilla\r
1 tsp extr (peppermint or almond)\r
Food coloring (optional)\r
Mix butter, powdered sugar, milk, vanilla and peppermint in your mixer.\r
it will be thick at first - great for spreading\r
thin with milk to get a toothpaste thickness good for piping - great for outlining cookies\r
thin more to create a icing you can fill in color flow style for a smooth finish. The perfect thinness is when stop stirring the icing and count to 10 it gets smooth.\r
