In Taiwan and other Asian countries ikizukuri is considered delicious. In other more westernized nations it is considered controversial and in most countries is banned. Ikizukuri is the consumption of sea creatures while they are still alive. A fish can be fried or filleted a certain way as to keep it still alive. It is controversial as the animal is indeed needlessly suffering a slow death.\r

Number 9: Tuna Eyes\r

If you ever walk into a deli in Japan you might come across packages of eyeballs the size of oranges. The Japanese love their tuna eyeballs. Supposedly tuna eyeballs taste like squid and are served as a main dish.\r

Number 8: Pig Blood\r
\r
Bacon isnt the only tasty dish to come from a pig. Pigs blood is also considered a delicious and hearty breakfast addition. As the pig is slaughtered the blood is drained and quickly fried, as the fresher the blood the better tasting and more nutritious it is. \r

Number 7: Escamole\r

If you ever travel to Mexico City be sure to try the escamole. It is considered a delicacy in Mexico but most common in Mexico City. Escamole is another word for the larvae of ants. People go and dig in the dirt to find ant hills and then harvest the eggs. Escamole can be eaten raw or added to cheese.\r

Number 6: Fried Tarantula\r

Cambodians love their tarantulas. They are baked and boiled, but the most common way to eat a tarantula is fried. Street vendors sell fried tarantulas like cotton candy. \r

Number 5: Placenta Stew\r

In recent years the trend of women eating their placenta after giving birth has risen. There are companies that will turn the womans placenta into dried placenta capsules and making placenta stew is another way women are enjoying placenta.\r

Number 4: Bat Soup\r

Thailand and China have some interesting, stomach-churning dishes (for Americans) but bat soup is right up there ranking 4th on the countdown. Fruit bats are alive when theyre put into pots of boiling water and cooked until theyre shriveled and well done. A pinch of salt and dinner is served. \r

Octopus squirms its way into the top 3 of the most disgusting foods people eat. It isnt just your standard octopus fare. The Koreans enjoy octopus alive. In most Korean restaurants you can order an adult octopus or even baby octopus alive served in a soup bowl. The suction cups supposedly stick to your mouth and throat as you swallow it down. Yum!\r

Number 2: Maggots & Cheese\r

Oh yes, maggots and cheese is a delicacy in Sardinia called casu marzu. It is a type of fermented pecorino cheese that has been peppered with maggots. The maggots basically digest bits and pieces of the cheese and their waste becomes slightly slimey. The Sardinians love their casu marzu, however, due to more modern health safety regulations it is technically an illegal cheese.\r

The number one most disgusting food people ually consume, most common in the Philippines and Vietnam is called balut. Fertilized duck eggs with the fetus of a duck grown to a month or so old. The older the fetus, the more desired it is. The fetus is old enough to have bones, feathers, beak, feet, etc. The people slurp the fetus and the placenta of the duck right out of its shell. \r
