President Trump has attacked the media for criticizing his wife Melania’s decision to wear high heels on their way to survey areas affected by Hurricane Harvey.

President Trump has attacked the media for criticizing his wife Melania’s decision to wear high heels on their way to survey areas devastated by Hurricane Harvey, reports CNN.
“My wife respects the White House greatly. So when she leaves the plane, we are going to Texas where they have the hurricane, and she leaves the plane, and she’s dressed appropriately for the White House because we respect the White House a lot,” Trump told the crowd at a rally in Huntsville, Alabama on Friday.
“And she’s wearing high heels, like many of you would do, and they went after her. But she didn't know. And then when she got out in the plane in Texas, she was wearing sneakers, which she had with her,” Trump added.
Referring to the media’s coverage, Trump said, “They know it was dishonest, but that's the way it was. They said she wore high heels, she’s gonna go into the floods with high heels.”
He also referred to the media as “fake news” and “among the most dishonest people.”
A New York Times piece from last month had stated that the first lady’s heels had become “a symbol for what many see as the disconnect between the Trump administration and reality.”
Many on social media slammed the choice, with one person tweeting, in part, “Melania in heels & a dress this time. Trumps are a total fail at optics.”
“What was she thinking?" Someone else tweeted. "Visiting the devastation from Hurricane Harvey in five inch heels. Melania... you are not a runway model now!”
