At about 1:05 the tracks glowed from the reflection of the headlights of what we thought was train 79 Carolinian, but little did we know the Q401 we had heard about earlier had snuck on up.\r
\r
Not knowing that we had two trains coming our way, I originally planed to set up on the same side as Q401, but changed my mind to the other side for more space, and that ended up being a great move.\r
\r
Q401 mowed up and through Ashland headed south towards Richmond, but just as the engines neared my position (0:52), you could hear P079 call the signal four north Ashland, it was then I knew I was in for a treat.\r
\r
Q401 Contained a decent lashup of a Gevo leader(typical), but had a dash 8 and a nice SD60M trailing, not bad.\r
\r
The long strand of Q401s Mixed freight marched forward, seeming endless. As that was happening, another horn started to blast near the station, that would e the horn of P42 #15, leading P079, the SB Carolinian, creating an awesome race.\r
\r
After 401 received a yellow signal at Langford, he pulled forward before getting a red at Elmont, letting P079 cross over and clear track 3 for our next train.\r
\r
Amtrak P079 comes by at (3:20)\r
