White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced Thursday that President Trump will personally be donating $1 million to Harvey relief efforts.
Tony Schwartz, co-author of Trump’s ‘The Art of the Deal,’ thinks that isn’t going to happen.
“No way Trump donates $1m of own money to Hurricane Harvey victims," Schwartz tweeted on Friday . 'He only promises to give. Never actually does.”
While Schwartz, who has been an outspoken critic of the president, didn't specify his reasons behind the assertion, some reports have found inconsistencies in Trump's charitable donations.
Newsweek notes that “Washington Post reporter David Fahrenthold won a Pulitzer Prize for investigating Trump's philanthropy…Ultimately, [the journalist] found $7.8 million in charitable giving from Trump's personal accounts since the '80s, even though he bragged about donating ‘tens of millions of dollars...to charitable causes.’”
However, Trump has kept his promise of donating his presidential salary so far; the amount from the first quarter was given to the National Park Service and the second quarter's to the Department of Education.
The White House has not yet announced the organization that will receive Trump's Harvey donation and Sanders asked reporters during Thursday's press briefing if they had suggestions for potential recipients.
