World's Most Powerful X-Ray Laser Will Show How Chemical Reactions Happen

2017-09-01 1

The official opening ceremony of the $1.4-billion X-ray Free Electron Laser took place in Schenefeld, Germany on Friday. The laser is over 200 times faster than every other laser in the world and it's blistering rate of fire allows it to perform a unique mission. The laser will be able to capture how molecules move and change within chemical reactions. Using an advanced Large Pixel Detector, the XFEL will produce “molecular movies” for the first time in science history.
