Goods and Services Tax (GST), India's biggest tax reform, was launched at midnight at Parliament's historic Central Hall, by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Addressing the occasion, Modi explaining about GST, said that it would help fight corruption and black money, also had reassuring words for small traders jittery about being drawn into the tax net and complicated processes.
जीएसटी क्या है ?
गुड्स एंड सर्विस टैक्स (जीएसटी) एक अप्रत्यक्ष कर यानी इंडायरेक्ट टैक्स है। जीएसटी के तहत वस्तुओं और सेवाओं पर एक समान टैक्स लगाया जाता है। जहां जीएसटी लागू नहीं है, वहां वस्तुओं और सेवाओं पर अलग-अलग टैक्स लगाए जाते हैं। सरकार अगर इस बिल को 2016 से लागू कर देती तो हर सामान और हर सेवा पर सिर्फ एक टैक्स लगेगा यानी वैट, एक्साइज और सर्विस टैक्स जैसे करों की जगह सिर्फ एक ही टैक्स लगेगा।
जीएसटी के फायदे?
संविधान के मुताबिक केंद्र और राज्य सरकारें अपने हिसाब से वस्तुओं और सेवाओं पर टैक्स लगा सकती हैं। अगर कोई कंपनी या कारखाना एक राज्य में अपने उत्पाद बनाकर दूसरे राज्य में बेचता है तो उसे कई तरह के टैक्स दोनों राज्यों को चुकाने होते हैं जिससे उत्पाद की कीमत बढ़ जाती है। जीएसटी लागू होने से उत्पादों की कीमत कम होगी।
नेशनल काउंसिल ऑफ एप्लाइड रिसर्च की एक रिपोर्ट के मुताबिक जीएसटी लागू होने से देश की जीडीपी में एक से पौने दो फीसदी तक की बढ़ोतरी हो सकती है।
What is GST?
It has been long pending issue to streamline all the different types of indirect taxes and implement a “single taxation” system. This system is called as GST ( GST is the abbreviated form of Goods & Services Tax). The main expectation from this system is to abolish all indirect taxes and only GST would be levied. As the name suggests, the GST will be levied both on Goods and Services.
GST was first introduced during 2007-08 budget session. On 17th December 2014, the current Union Cabinet ministry approved the proposal for introduction GST Constitutional Amendment Bill. On 19th of December 2014, the bill was presented on GST in Lok sabha. The Bill will be tabled and taken up for discussion during the coming Budget session. The current central government is very determined to implement GST Constitutional Amendment Bill.
