Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera said Japan's military could deter a missile attack on US territory by North Korea. Should North Korea attack Guam, Onodera said the missiles could be shot down by the Japanese military before reaching the U.S according to Onodera. Meanwhile, South Korea has had a nuclear deterrence since the Korean War when the U.S. vowed to protect the country from its northern neighbor. Pyongyang's recent long-range missile tests haven't startled the average South Korean citizen, according to CNN. "They say either 'active war is still highly unlikely' or "I'm not really paying attention to politics, sorry."
