A New York City subway train was forced to brake suddenly on the morning of August 10 when a man appeared on the track ahead.
This video, shot by passenger Casie Jordan, shows the man walking through the dark tunnel towards the halted uptown-bound 2 train, between the Christopher Street and 14th Street stations.
The incident caused delays on several subway lines. In a statement on Facebook, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) said “a man was reported lying across the tracks between Christopher St and 14 St on the Seventh Avenue line.” The MTA said power was turned off on lines between 34th Street-Penn Station and Christopher Street, after the man was spotted “attempting to touch the third rail and running along the tracks between stations.” The so-called “third rail” is an electrical conductor placed between rails, providing power to trains.
