Alien Gear Holsters Introduces the 4.0 IWB Holster (http://aliengearholsters.com/)
Eagle-eyed observers might notice some similarities between Alien Gear's Cloak Tuck 3.0 and the Alien Gear's 4.0 IWB holster configuration. They definitely have some things in common, this is true...but there are a lot of subtle differences that you might not notice.
The first thing you'll notice is the shell. The Cloak Tuck 3.0 uses our standard holster shell and mounting hardware. The 4.0 IWB holster uses the standard Shift shell and trigger guard shell, fully wrapping the trigger guard. The Shift Shell, however, attaches at a single anchor point, though without compromising retention.
Another aspect of the shell is the retention. The 3.0 has to be adjusted at all four anchor points, where the holster shell is attached to the backer. The 4.0 IWB holster, however, only has to be adjusted at the Adjustable Retention Unit.
The backers have very similar construction, but have some significant differences.
The Cloak Tuck 3.0 is made from four layers of material - a closed-cell neoprene backing pad, inner layers of woven ballistic nylon and a spring steel core, and our Alien Skin textured surface material.
The 4.0 IWB holster uses almost the same materials. However, the backing pad is our new Cool Vent perforated neoprene, which is moisture-wicking and will offer a bit more breathability. The core is the same - woven ballistic nylon and spring steel - but we've created a new Alien Skin surface for the ShapeShift.
You'll also notice the 4.0 IWB holster backer is smaller. Since less hardware is necessary to mount the shell to the holster, we've reduced the overall footprint of the backer by about 25 percent. It occupies a bit less real estate inside the waistband, carrying a bit more comfortably for some. Both holsters are compatible with the Cloak Dock IWB Holster Mount, but since the ShapeShift IWB holster is narrower, you can't use one Cloak Dock IWB for both.
The belt clips are the same, but they attach in different methods. The Cloak Tuck 3.0 uses the same hardware to attach the shell to the holster to attach the belt clips. The 4.0 IWB holster, however, uses a locking cam insert.
Both holsters allow the choice of belt clips. Standard clips are available, as are J-clips and C-clips. Leather loops are available for the 3.0, and polymer loops are available for the 4.0 IWB holster.
Both holsters allow the user to adjust ride height and grip cant, though the locking cam insert of the 4.0 IWB holster allows the wearer to do so without the use of tools.
