Despite a close call with a “sizeable avalanche” that swept over Mount Hotham on August 8, a popular ski resort said it was confident conditions were safe for skiers.

AAP reported two skiers narrowly avoided an avalanche on the Victorian Alps outside the patrolled resort area on Tuesday morning, around 11.30 am. Since the heavy snow dump, Vic Emergency were conducted controlled avalanches while avalanche warnings were issued for skiers.

Despite the potentials hazards, the resort said a metre of fresh snow on the slopes have created excellent ski conditions. A resort spokesman told ABC it was the “best snowfall” the alps have received in a long time, adding there was always potentials for avalanches anywhere but this was unusual for Australia.
