President Trump took another aim at Senator Richard Blumenthal in a tweet on Monday.
President Trump is continuing to attack Senator Richard Blumenthal after the Democratic lawmaker publicly backed the Russia investigation and criticized the administration’s efforts to identify leakers.
Trump tweeted Monday afternoon, “I think Senator Blumenthal should take a nice long vacation in Vietnam, where he lied about his service, so he can at least say he was there.”
And earlier in the day, the president tweeted in a series, “Interesting to watch Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut talking about hoax Russian collusion when he was a phony Vietnam con artist! Never in U.S. history has anyone lied or defrauded voters like Senator Richard Blumenthal. He told stories about his Vietnam battles and.......conquests, how brave he was, and it was all a lie. He cried like a baby and begged for forgiveness like a child. Now he judges collusion?”
According to NBC News, “Years ago, Blumenthal did misrepresent his military service, repeatedly conflating his time in the Marine Reserves in Washington, D.C., with those who served overseas in Vietnam.”
The report goes on to say, “He later apologized for misrepresenting his service, saying he regretted saying he’d served ‘in’ Vietnam instead of ‘during’ Vietnam.”
However, a spokesperson has denied that Blumenthal bragged about the time he served or cried once his past became public.
The senator has since responded directly to Trump’s earlier attacks by writing on Twitter, “Mr. President: Your bullying hasn't worked before and it won't work now. No one is above the law.”
He added, “This issue isn't about me - it's about the Special Counsel's independence and integrity.”
