Bellingham Technical College has been training Washington State home inspectors since 1996. Back in 1999, when state licensing began, B.T.C. offered the first WA State approved college level "Fundamentals of Home Inspection" training course. B.T.C.'s students obtain 135 hours of "Fundamentals" training and 40 hours of mandatory field training. Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to take state licensing exams. This video provides an overview of BTC's fast-track home inspector training course.
"Fundamentals" course content includes: Washington State laws; standards of practice; site and exterior; structure; roofing; electrical; plumbing; heating and cooling; insulation, ventilation and building science; fireplaces, wood stoves and chimneys; interior; alternative construction and manufactured homes; swimming pools and spas; yard irrigation systems; product quality, hazardous materials, and safety issues; rot and wood destroying organisms.
Home Inspection courses are offered only on the Bellingham campus of Bellingham Technical College. Holidays or snow days may lead to seasonal schedule variations, but the standard hours are Monday through Friday, from 8AM to 5PM, for four weeks.
