Venezuelan Police Crack Down on Protesters as Constituent Assembly Opens

Venezuela’s controversial Constituent Assembly was sworn in amid massive protests in Caracas on Friday, August 4.

Reports citing opposition lawmaker Juan Andrés Mejía said police fired tear gas and rubber bullets as protesters marched to the Santa Rosa De Lima neighborhood, in Miranda district. In footage streamed live Mejia showed the scene with tear gas filling the air.
