CNN reported over five dozen states have requested help from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). 33 states and 36 localities requested the government assess their election systems to prevent possible cyber attacks. Last month, the DHS testified that 21 states were potential targets for hackers linked to the Russian government. In the memo, the DHS stated it shared technical information to help states identify and stop harmful cyber activity in its tracks. "These voting systems should not have active connections to the Internet during the voting process, and are rarely, if ever connected to the Internet at all."
