For Argentina’s afterlife, bigger is better.

Why settle for a tombstone when you could build a marble mausoleum? The answer comes down to price, which is why only Buenos Aires’ wealthiest are buried at La Recoleta Cemetery.

Former Argentinian presidents and celebrities are buried at La Recoleta, including Eva Perón and Napoléon Bonaparte’s granddaughter.

The cemetery sits on 14 acres in one of the capital’s wealthiest neighborhoods, with avenues leading to almost 5,000 crypts. Some of its “residents” even imported materials from Milan and Paris.

But with walking tours of the cemetery having turned it into a major attraction, the deceased don’t get a lot of peace and quiet.
