Rainforests are one of our planet's most spectacular ecosystems. Not only are they home to countless rare species of plants and animals, but are the earth's very lungs, because they draw in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. But today, more than half of Earth's rainforests have already been lost forever to the insatiable human demand for wood, illegal logging and corporate greed. In contemplating this weighty issue Kej began sketching a piece for his friend, Grammy® Winning flutist Wouter Kellerman. His intention was to use Wouter’s flute “to do what an entire orchestra cannot do... to convey a very personal emotion and feeling associated with the rain forests” said Kej. While working on the piece, Kellerman responded with his own musical response, which so exceeded the composer’s original expectations, that it was decided to include Wouter’s own original in its place.
